Is a Website Essential to the Success of Your Affiliate Business?

One of the challenges that you face as an affiliate business owner is to determine what strategy to use to build your business. One common approach you hear often to start an affiliate business is to create a website. But is that website really required? Of course not, but it’s going to be essential later. So how can you get started without owning a website?

Free Blogs

The first step is to get your website hosted by someone else. There are two great options for doing this. Let’s discuss both options, and then decide where you may want to go from there.

The first option is to use a free blog. There are a lot of web hosting sites that offer free Blogger blogs. Some of the popular sites are Hubpages, Google’s Blogger, Weebly, Blogspot, and many others. Blogger is well known and trusted, and it’s what I use. Blogger is simple to use and gives you total control of your blog.

You can also run your blog via the web. Write and update your blog every day, and post to it every night. If you choose this route, you will need to keep your blog current. To use the blogging platform, head over to Google and type in free blogs. There are thousands of options. After you select one, sign up as a blogger, and then set up your account.

The second option is to use a web 2.0 platform. You can get started with any of the hundreds of free web 2.0 blogs available. These sites are often called “solve it” sites because they solve a small problem that a larger site solves. Check out a few of the sites and choose a few to get started.

These sites are especially good for affiliate marketers because you can use them exactly the way you would create a blog. One caution is to keep a list of topics for each blog, so you don’t get bogged down. And with only two or three topics, you won’t have a lot of posts to keep upon.

Completely free web 2.0 blogs and you can get started right away. And, you won’t have to invest a dime in hosting or autoresponder fees, which is great if you’re on a tight budget.

Sites like HubPages and Squidoo are also good sources for free web 2.0 blogs. They feature high-ranking Google entities, which are trustworthy sources for quality content.

Signing Up for Affiliate Programs

Affiliate programs are always looking for strong websites that bring quality, targeted traffic. Good affiliate programs will want to be associated with websites that have healthy page ranks. If your site doesn’t have a rank, they won’t want to be – affiliate programs are looking for mediums in which to promote their products and services.

According to the ClickBank Marketplace, which is a portal where products are sold, the highest-ranking is generally the equivalent of a web 2.0 site with between 2 and 100 thousand page views per month. Many marketers aim for this – either to get traffic from search engines for their target keyword or to get traffic from their target audience.

In addition, if you want to make a convincing case to a potential buyer, who has shown an interest in your niche and is ready to buy the product you are promoting, you should include testimonials. Only publish testimonials on your website if allowed by the product creator. Many marketers worry about big formulated companies making it appear and merchants to their affiliates, but in actuality, it is doing the exact same thing these affiliate networks are doing. It costs them little to get these recommendations out to people, so they are. If you want to have the best affiliate statistics in the business, make sure to publish the names of the people who are reviewing and making testimonials on your behalf.

Since your goal is to enable the highest producing affiliate to produce the highest converting sales, don’t discount the value of these two components. Test and track to see which ads produce and which ones don’t. Changing your ads for the better, and tweaking a few other things can be the difference between monumental profits and dismal sales and adding new people to your list
